The Princess Royal will go on to visit Admiralty House, where she will view several exhibitions devoted to Scott, including memorabilia from Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. Schoolchildren from a number of schools and colleges in Plymouth will then perform excerpts from a new musical Great Scott, by Australian composer David Jensen.

HRH will also be introduced to several descendants of the Plymouth men who sailed with Captain Scott, and be presented with a copy of the Plymouth Anthology of work by local schoolchildren; and a posy by three year old Chloe Jones, a descendant of Plymothian Francis Davies, Shipwright on the Terra Nova.

Professor Wendy Purcell said: “The City of Plymouth is defined by a spirit of discovery and boldness – and Captain Scott and his crew are the very personification of that ethos. They have helped to shape the heritage of Plymouth, just as the University is taking up the mantle in the present through its world-class research and teaching.

“The rededication ceremony will be an opportunity to reflect and pay tribute to the bravery and endeavour of Scott and his men.”

Scott was born and educated in Plymouth, and led the 1910 -1912 British Antarctic Expedition to Antarctica. The team bravely walked across 900 miles of snow and ice to the South Pole, reaching their destination on 17 January 1912. But tragedy struck during their return journey, when, having run out of food, they perished in the extreme cold, in a blizzard, on or about 29th March 1912.

The National Scott Memorial, which features bronze portrait medallions of Captain Scott RN and the other members of the South Pole party (Dr Edward Wilson, Captain Lawrence Oates, Lieutenant Henry Bowers RIM and Petty Officer Edgar Evans RN) was unveiled in 1925. A short passage from Scott’s final diary entry is laid out on the ground around the monument.

Dr David Wilson, Co-ordinator of the national Scott 100 events, said: “The Mount Wise national monument to Captain Scott and the Pole Party has honoured one of Plymouth’s greatest sons for many years and reflects the remarkable courage and heroism with which they met their end a century ago.

“That we will all stand here to rededicate this monument is a testament to the lasting legacy of exploration, scientific study and cultural inspiration which Scott and his team left to us, and which has had considerable influence on the course of the twentieth century. All the expedition descendants are very proud that HRH the Princess Royal is leading us in this remembrance and hope that it will allow everyone to find fresh inspiration for their own lives in the story of Captain Scott and his Antarctic expeditions.”

A £250 million scheme to help first-time buyers who want to buy a new-build property but can’t afford the high deposits has been launched.

Under the FirstBuy scheme, the government and the housebuilders will jointly provide a 20 per cent loan to top up first-time buyers’ own deposit of 5 per cent. This will allow them to take out a mortgage for 75 per cent of the property.

Loans will be free of charge for the first five years and repaid when the property is resold. The funds will then be recycled to fund more homes for the scheme.

The First Buy scheme should help 10,000 families to get onto the housing ladder for the first time, with the first homes expected to be available from September 2011.

Some of the UK’s top comedic actors and actresses, with an entourage of make up artists and camera crews, took over Admiralty House in June and transformed it into iconic 10 Downing Street.

The stairwell was decorated with pictures of previous Prime Ministers and the drawing room set up to create a formal office, all for the filming of Channel 4′s 50s style ‘fugitive’ film noir spoof – The Hunt for Tony Blair.

The Comic Strip team reformed for this one off 60 minute film, which boasts a host of stars including: Robbie Coltrane; Nigel Planer; Jennifer Saunders; Harry Enfield; Rik Mayall; Stephen Mangan; Morgana Robinson and John Sessions.

Prime Minister Tony Blair (Stephen Mangan) is wanted for murder and on the run. He escapes from Number 10 and vows to clear his name no matter what the consequences.

Hot on his tail is Inspector Hutton (Robbie Coltrane), with his sidekick (James Buckley). The chase unfolds thanks to evidence gleaned from his ‘allies’ Mandelson (Nigel Planer) and Brown (Ford Kiernan), as well as an unlikely encounter with Margaret Thatcher (Jennifer Saunders).

Alistair Campbell is played by Harry Enfield and Rik Mayall is Professor Predictor.

Live Life Free is available at Mount Wise from 16^th July 2011 on the next 20 homes sold or until 4pm 30 September 2011, whichever comes first. Only one package is available per property. Mount Wise

The Mount Wise site covers 28 acres and is located less than a mile from Plymouth’s city centre.

The scheme has planning permission for 469 homes, a 21 bedroom hotel, 32,000 sq ft of offices, a 4,500 sq ft convenience store, a cricket pavilion and a 50,000 sq ft data storage centre.

The launch weekend took place in September 2010 and saw more than 3000 visitors. Work on the first phase also commenced in September 2010 and the first show home opened up to the public on Saturday 7^th May.
